Knee Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee is a wear-and-tear disease that develops slowly over the years, and worsens gradually over time.

The incidence increases with ageing. Other risk factors include previous injury, being overweight, family history of knee OA, and certain activities/occupations.

Common symptoms include:

  • • Pain with movement or at rest
  • • A grating sensation in the joint during movement
  • • Stiffness
  • • Joint swelling
  • • Loss of range of movement
  • • Loss of mobility

Some patients may complain that they feel weak over knees or lower legs.

Please consult your doctor if you experience any of the above symptoms.

Treatment options include:

  • • Lifestyle changes, for example weight loss, moderate exercise, etc
  • • Oral/topical painkillers
  • • Supplements like glucosamine
  • • Physiotherapy
  • • Injections to knees
  • • Surgery
